Elemental analysis: Minerals and trace elements

After specific sample preparation, the elements are analysed by ICP-MS or AAS.

Minerals such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium that are usually present in higher concentrations, as well as trace elements such as iodine, selenium, zinc, chromium, and molybdenum and the toxic heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, nickel, and mercury can be quantified due to the extremely large linear range of the ICP-MS 7900 from Agilent Technologies. Alternatively, the determination can also be carried out by atomic absorption or atomic emission spectroscopy.

By using ICP-MS for element screening, almost all metals and amphoteric elements, from boron to rare earths to uranium, can be detected semiquantitatively in the trace range. A sample of 100 mg is sufficient to obtain maximum information with the least effort.

We carry out the analysis of pharmaceutical raw materials and finished products for elemental impurities in accordance with the EMA Guideline (EMA/CHMP/SWAP/4446/2000, valid from September 2013) and in accordance with USP chapters <232> and <233>.

We advise and support you in the creation of a test plan that complies with the specific requirements resulting from the manufacturing process, the dosage form or other requirements.
